SAVE THE DATE / SOUND AND SILENCE - METROHAN, TUNEL - BEYOGLU, 8 MAY 2025 - 31 AUGUST 2025
The third floor of Metrohan, one of the most beautiful buildings in Beyoğlu Tünel Square with a 360-degree view of the Historical Peninsula, which was restored by IBB Heritage, was opened with the exhibition “Sound and Silence” by photographer Ziya Tacir. The “Sound and Silence” exhibition, which met with art lovers with the contributions of IBB Culture and IBB Heritage, can be visited free of charge on the third floor of Metrohan between 10.00-18.00 every day except Mondays until August 31st, accompanied by historical views winking from every corner of the building.
The newly opened third floor of Metrohan, which rises on the rails connecting Karaköy and Beyoğlu and fascinates visitors with its magnificent architecture, hosts the exhibition titled “Sound and Silence” curated by Levent Çalıkoğlu. The exhibition consists of Ziya Tacir's striking photographs focusing on the relationship between space, nature and people. Tacir invites the viewer to a visual universe that is as alienating as it is familiar, with his photographs ranging from architectural structures to natural landscapes, from historical interiors to modern urban textures. The artist, who has been demonstrating his experience and technical mastery in digital photography production since 2011, creates a visual memory with the works he has selected from his production process spanning many years by examining the question of whether photography is a document or an art object in the age of digital transformation. Each building, interior space or section of nature that enters Tacir's frame invites the viewer not only to see, but also to feel and think. The serene and impressive compositions that Ziya Tacir creates with long exposure in his photographs both make the traces of time visible and invisibly make us feel the relationship that silence and solitude establish with space. Establishing a connection between the past and the present through industrial buildings, cultural heritage and natural landscapes, the artist depicts the present silence of spaces that were once filled with sound through the bending of time.
“Sound and Silence” draws attention not only with its large-scale indoor and outdoor representations, but also with a surprising aspect. The exhibition also includes scenes from more everyday life, where long exposures are replaced by fast and dynamic human movements. The works that highlight human behavior bear witness to moments in which time accelerates within the static structure of photography. Tacir consciously uses this contrast to make visible the delicate line between sound and silence, presence and absence.
“Sound and Silence” exhibition, which meets with art lovers on the third floor of Metrohan, can be visited free of charge between 10.00-18.00 every day except Mondays between May 9 and August 31, 2025.
